 Re: Stupid Snake logo
Glad to see the original font. It looks professionally done.
The logo for the cover would probably best be judged in context of the full image. Stand-alone it is a little busy on the inside. If you have really intricate full cover art it may work fine, but if its simple (like the border) it may look incongruent.

Here's the sketch for the front cover, including the logo. The colors may change in the final version and there might be more of a background than just a gradient. I'm still working on it. The "1" is of course the number of the book since it's a series. Now. Does that look any good?

 Re: Stupid Snake logo
The kerning (spacing) between the 'S's and the lowercase letters is off. It's creating a weird gap that makes it read 'S tupidS nake'. If you could adjust those so they are all visually spaced evenly, it should help.

 Re: Stupid Snake logo
Ah... my bad. The last image I posted has the wrong logo... That was actually a font I used temporarily. The kerning on my actual logo (done by hand) has much better kerning, somehow, than this font. Curious. But still, I need to adjust some of the letters a bit, so good advice anyway, emilylorange

Haha! I love that cover! I agree with the kerning issues pointed out. If it's going to be closer to what you have in your banner then it's much better.

 Re: Stupid Snake logo
I am tired of looking at this. Not so sure about the kerning and such on this. You might notice it's different from the logo in my banner - I simplified that one and this is the result. Opinions and critique, if you may please! I'd appreciate it. A lot.

 Re: Stupid Snake logo
I think it might be the kerning again. This way makes it seem as though each letter it a little bit disconnected with the next. I'd bring the distance in some, but maybe add a smudge to the space between the two words. Perhaps you could do something to balance it out more, right now it kinda throws all of it's weight to the left. Maybe try to incorporate similar objects together... For the setting you have I would almost think that some illuminated text styling would be appropriate, so perhaps play around with that.

Making it look like an illuminated text was my mistake in the first place. It's not a good idea in general. You want your logos to be read easily. Luckily it was pointed out to me... eventually. I do see some kerning problems more vividly now. You're right about the left side being more dense. There are bigger spaces between letters on "Snake" so I need to fix it. Thanks! I'm not sure about getting the two words closer. They are two words, after all. I tried that already, several times, but it just doesn't look right to me. What do you mean by "incorporating similar objects together"?

 Re: Stupid Snake logo
Here's the logo after some further kerning. But is it better?

What do you mean by "incorporating similar objects together"? I meant that they should be farther apart, my bad? My similar objects I mean something along the lines of uniting the back of the U and the front of the P... I do think that one reads easier. It's more like "Stupid Snake" than "S-t-u-p-i-d-S-n-a-k-e".

 Re: Stupid Snake logo
Is anything ever done though? (I'm kidding, but yes, this is good. Do it.) You're quite welcome!

 Re: Stupid Snake logo
Hey, I really like how your logo's developed over time.
One thing was bothering me though. I noticed that your final image was a .GIF image and you set a transparent background to the image... but do you see how the edges of the curvy lines are looking a little ragged? They're called artifacts and you can avoid them if you're in photoshop... when you save the image for the web, set the "matte color" to your website's background color (in this case, it's #F0F2F7). Then, once you reload the image back onto the web, it'll look smoother.
Unless the pixelated look was intentional...
Hehe, sorry, the web designer in me just came out...

Hehe, sorry, the web designer in me just came out... There's no transparent background, it's white. This logo isn't digital, it was drawn with a pen. It doesn't look perfect because I "saved it for web" in Photoshop - don't worry I'm not gonna use that on the actual cover of the book
