 Facebook?
I read what you playah's had to say on copyright in another thread and so before posting work on Facebook (the easiest way for me to share it with my mates no?) I had a read of their terms and conditions. Unless I'm reading this wrong (I am dyslexic so...) they have the right to use anything you put up on Facebook for their own purposes? In other words never put your work or sketches up on facebook. If I DO put my work on Facebook can I still publish it myself at a later date or would a publisher be turned off by my sharing a few pages on the open web?
A few random questions, I know. Cheers.
Sharing Your Content and Information
You own all of the content and information you post on Facebook, and you can control how it is shared through your privacy and application settings. In addition: 1. For content that is covered by intellectual property rights, like photos and videos (IP content), you specifically give us the following permission, subject to your privacy and application settings: you grant us a non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use any IP content that you post on or in connection with Facebook (IP License). This IP License ends when you delete your IP content or your account unless your content has been shared with others, and they have not deleted it. 2. When you delete IP content, it is deleted in a manner similar to emptying the recycle bin on a computer. However, you understand that removed content may persist in backup copies for a reasonable period of time (but will not be available to others). 3. When you use an application, the application may ask for your permission to access your content and information as well as content and information that others have shared with you. We require applications to respect your privacy, and your agreement with that application will control how the application can use, store, and transfer that content and information. (To learn more about Platform, including how you can control what information other people may share with applications, read our Data Use Policy and Platform Page.) 4. When you publish content or information using the Public setting, it means that you are allowing everyone, including people off of Facebook, to access and use that information, and to associate it with you (i.e., your name and profile picture). 5. We always appreciate your feedback or other suggestions about Facebook, but you understand that we may use them without any obligation to compensate you for them (just as you have no obligation to offer them).

 Re: Facebook?
You got it right. Facebook can use whatever is uploaded onto their website and you can do nothing about it if you agreed to their terms which you did if you have an account there. Basically, if you're uploading family photos - who cares. But if it's an intellectual property such as art, comics, etc... probably not such a good idea getting it into Facebook. Tumblr works better for that anyway. You can have a Facebook group with updates about your comic without posting any pages. That's a much better idea.
Most comic publishers these days won't mind if you have your pages up on the web. Worse case scenario - they would ask you to take most of it off if you sign a publishing contract. Posting "a few" pages, even on Facebook, would be more than fine with any publisher. There are entire comics online for you to read that are published (FreakAngels, for example).

 Re: Facebook?
Actually it's a great point, I have always been worried about copyright. I did 2 things that seem to work well. One I made a fan page- knowledge is power imo if your going to put your stuff out there make sure people know you own it, so in the horrible event that they do use it, at least people will know where it came from. The second and most important is I stopped posting pages on my fan page I only post links to the posts now, so no more actual pages on Facebook- I also did this because some pages contain nudity which violates Facebook policy, so this way it doesn't go against the rules- it's a win-win.
