Hi all!

To Jason: Your MakingComics Podcast really inspired me to seriously pursue an idea for a Webcomic i had a long time ago. I started to make sketches, wrote an outline and even a script for a whole first episode or issue.

Then happened, what always happens when i'm trying to do something like this. My self-consciousness told me i'm probably too bad of an artist that anyone would read something drawn by me.

Of course, my Girlfriend and Friends and Family all beg to differ but then again... they're close to me so why would they hurt my feelings.

I've drawn the first page and awaiting my lightbox to ink it this week. I already started on the second page and want to register a Domain to publish it. Luckily my background in Multimedia has given me some knowledge about Online CMS especially Wordpress so that part is no problem to me.

I attached a few images (WARNING: some nudity). some are concept sketches for my comic some just random. Do you think its good enough for a start? Do you ever have the same problems?

You can draw already, but even the best artist isn't necessarily a good cartoonist. First you need to learn the basics, so start small. Don't work on an endless project with gazillion pages and countless characters and interweaving subplots. Just draw a comic. A short, a simple comic. By doing that you ensure you'll actually finish the thing and then you can evaluate it and do another with what you've learned from that short comic. Maybe then you'll do a longer one and learn some other things, and then do another one after that and so on and so on. I've been doing that since the 1st grade. It's bulletproof. You keep getting better, you keep learning and you gain confidence in your abilities to draw and tell a story. What could go wrong?

Your artwork looks fine to me. It's not uncommon for an artist to be over-critical of thier own work. Drawing a comic will give you plenty of practice, and with practice, you're artwork will naturally improve over time anyway.

Just remember that the best comics aren't always the ones with the best artwork, but the ones with a good story that people enjoy reading.

So as long as your artwork is clear and can support your story, I think you would do fine.
