Forum rules

One thread per graphic novel project to keep out the clutter. In other words, don't start a new thread for each page. No webcomics (newspaper type funnies) that have no order. This is only for a series of pages that create a full story or chapter. If there is a demand for a webcomic section then let me know and I'll add one.

Post Re: On the Verge
I just started my first contest for On the Verge. I'm giving away a copy of my first book which collects Chapter 1 and various backstory elements as well as a couple of promotional pieces that I've done and an original ink drawing. If you're interested, you can find out more here: http://jsnsmith.com/ontheverge/2012/06/13/verge-win/. The contest runs until the end of June so check it out before it's over.

Post Re: On the Verge
I've been working on a new story and finally started posting the pages for it a couple of weeks ago and thought I should share it on here. I'm really happy with how it's turned out and it's a little bit of a change of pace since the artwork is all black & white. Anyway, here's the pages that have been posted so far. What do you think?

Good transitions from panel to panel. It flows very smoothly.
I really like the drawing on the cover, especially the hair and ears.

Thanks iaviv! This story's a little different for me and the pacing is something that I really tried to work on when I was putting it together. Glad you think it works.

I dig it. Great work!

Genuine animal behavior is very hard to represent in comics. Too often artists anthropomorphize animals and make them behave and react like people, but even a little of that rings false. The cat is very genuine and emotive - looks like MY cat, as a matter of fact! Behaves like her too!

Post Re: On the Verge
Mr. Average - Thanks! That page went up this week and I mentioned that I've always had cats and it just fit into the story really well. I have a cat and she was a very good model, even if she didn't really want to sit still all that often, in the end she co-operated. And she's really expressive so maybe that filtered down into the final artwork. I did quite a few drawings before I picked the ones that fit the overall flow of the story so I'm glad it worked out.

Post Re: On the Verge
Like almost everyone else here on the forum, I post all my pages weekly and you can read all the On the Verge stuff free online. But now that I’ve sold out of my first collected edition - On the Verge: the Beginning - available for a free download. There is a bunch of bonus content and back story stuff as well as the first full chapter that I posted online. If you’re interested I posted pictures of the print copy a couple of months ago in this thread. Anyway, I’m hoping that it might help spread the word a little bit so if you’re interested, you can read more about why I put up a free download and download a PDF or CBR file on my site and please share it with your comic reading friends.

Here's the link: http://jsnsmith.com/ontheverge/2012/07/05/spread-word/

Post Re: On the Verge
It’s been awhile and I just wanted to post a quick update… As of tomorrow I’ll be wrapping up the SHADOWS story that has been posting for the past couple of months. It’s great to be finally wrapping that story and hopefully everyone enjoyed the read.

Anyway, the main reason for this post is that I wanted to put up a quick plug for the new story that will be starting on Thursday October 18th - I’ll be launching GONE Part 2. The goal for this new story is to follow along with the publishing schedule that the original GONE followed. So I’ll be posting the whole thing daily for 20 straight days. If you’ve haven’t read part 1, you can find out more about how it all came about here (http://jsnsmith.com/ontheverge/2012/03/01/29-day-comic-project/) and read the whole thing here (http://jsnsmith.com/ontheverge/archive/gone/). Be sure to check out the first page on Thursday!
