 Over the Wall
Hi everyone, thought I'd take advantage of this cool little forum and post the project that I've been working on lately: (Clicking on the above image will take you to the first page of the comic) And a few more pages, for the heck of it: I'm still fairly early in the process here, but there are about 17 pages up on my site now with a new page going up every wednesday (a pace which I hope to increase in the near future to twice a week, but we'll see). I'm still working out a good elevator pitch, but the story is about a girl named Arya who ventures over the wall of a long abandoned city to rescue her lost brother, doing her best to deal with the possibly evil, and certainly mind eating, beings that reside within. I'd love to hear what you think. And thanks to Jason for this forum and all the blogging you've done on comics, it has been a great resource.

Oh wow, I love your style and your use of black and grey ink so much! Not that it matters, but do you work on paper or digitally? I'm going to see the rest of the pages on your site right now.

 Re: Over the Wall
The comic looks great! The quality of the artwork and the style of the characters are very compelling.
Arya's first contact with the invisible wall was slightly confusing... I wasn't sure at first whether she was touching a barrier, or she was casting some kind of spell. And it was only on the second read-through that I got the impression that the lizard-like character was supposed to be floating; except for the fifth panel of page 15, there is usually something in the background behind him that looks like he might be sitting on.
You have some nifty ship designs there on your page, and I enjoyed reading through Shipwreck Planet (though I really wished the page images were larger).

Thanks for the comments guys! Cedarseed wrote: Oh wow, I love your style and your use of black and grey ink so much! Not that it matters, but do you work on paper or digitally? I'm going to see the rest of the pages on your site right now. No real ink here--everything from "pencils" to "ink" is done in photoshop. I'm a little ambivalent about the process to be honest; nothing beats the computer as a tool in terms of flexibility, but I wasn't expecting to miss using an actual brush on actual paper as much as I am. Oops, been meaning to rescale those images but completely forgot about them. I've upped the rez--still a tad small maybe, but much better now. I wonder if the barrier (the invisible wall) would come across better if Arya tapped on it when she first comes across it, rather then just touching the thing. I'll keep it in mind when I start thinking about revisions. Also: hey, you're the guy who does the outsider comic! Your stuff is awesome, speaking of great spaceship designs.

Nothing to add, but I really like it. Great looking art and the story is quite intriguing. Keep it up!

Oh wow, this is absolutely lovely! I'm also working on a short story in B&W with gray shading, so it's very inspirational to see how you do it. Especially because it's a night scene. I also love the characters' expressions and dialogue! They're instantly likeable. Can't wait to see more!

Hear hear! The three-tone shading is particularly effective. Really nice work!

I'm late to this party, but I'm agreed. It's all dead-sexy. Great style. You don't see something like this every day, and you should be commended.

 Re: Over the Wall
Thanks guys, glad you're liking it so far. Today is page 30 of the comic. Last time I tried writing a comic I lost all motivation around this point, but I'm still as excited about Over the Wall now as when I started, which I take as a good sign. Heck, I'm even thinking of picking up the pace a bit, so you might see more comics from me per week soon.

Just read up to your current page 37... and? Yes, please continue! Great stuff. The architecture of the old city is really cool, and the b&w tone is perfect.

 Re: Over the Wall
Figured I'd post in here because, hey, 50 pages! Yet another round number closer to the end goal, and one that I feel pretty good about. Only about 20 pages left now. Click for Page 50
